Use the year income is received, not the filing year. Later years use a separately approved assessment until the next return rules are verified.

Full-year 2026 resident; approved federal AGI and taxable plan amounts after basis. Eligible categories exclude unqualified early payouts and pre-retirement disability wages. No losses, special lump-sum tax or unresolved residence. Allocate joint investment income by its legal ownership before entry.

Includes the separate taxable categories below, including federally included Social Security and railroad benefits. Do not use total cash deposits.

Subtract only the amount included in federal AGI. Do not count these benefits as pension or other eligible income below.

Required for recipients aged 60 or older in this model. The August 2026 enacted statute adds domicile conditions; the earlier estimate instructions and fiscal note do not resolve shorter-residence 2026 cases. Obtain an approved liability for those cases. Under age 60, this selection is inactive in the calculation.

Only qualifying taxable pension after basis. Keep military pension, IRA and investment income in their separate fields.

Separate qualifying included military pension. In 2026 the applicable military limit is $12,500; the $15,000 allowance begins in 2027.

Qualified IRA / plan distributions, dividends, net gains, interest and net real-property rents. Keep amounts distinct from pensions and exempt benefits. Under age 60, this field receives no pension exclusion.

Your spouse has their own limit; unused exclusion cannot cover your income.

Keep this recipient’s military amount separate from yours.

Use actual ownership; qualifying jointly owned investment income is split equally. Do not place the full joint amount in both fields.

Use a known zero when none applies; reconcile state and local obligation interest and other required modifications.

Omit benefits and pension exclusions computed above. Prepare U.S. obligation interest and any low-income age / disability exclusion independently, without double counting.

Illustrative joint amount with two age-65 standard allowances. The 2026 worksheet uses $3,250 single / head, $6,500 joint and applicable $2,500 age / blindness allowances. Supply your approved total; the calculator does not select or recompute it when status changes.

Include approved personal and age credits. Do not enter withholding, estimated payments, refundable credits or a prior-year overpayment. Blank preserves before-credit tax and leaves the after-credit amount unknown.

Does Delaware tax Social Security, pensions and IRA income?

Estimate Delaware retirement tax for 2026: exempt Social Security, separate pension exclusions, prepared deductions and the official estimated-tax schedule.

Delaware removes U.S. Social Security and Railroad Retirement Act payments that were included in federal adjusted gross income. Ordinary employer pensions and traditional account distributions follow separate rules. Enter the included benefit amount, rather than gross benefit deposits, so the state subtraction reconciles with the federal return. The calculator keeps this amount separate from each owner’s pension categories.

For 2026, a recipient under 60 compares the qualifying employer-pension allowance of up to $2,000 with the qualifying military-pension allowance of up to $12,500; these are alternatives, not two deductions to add. At age 60, qualifying pension and eligible retirement income share a $12,500 owner limit. Approved investment income and qualified plan distributions can participate in that older-recipient calculation. Early payouts and disability payments classified as wages require their own eligibility review.

Senate Bill 219 was signed August 17, 2026. The enacted text adds legal-domicile conditions, while its fiscal note discusses 2027 implementation and the earlier 2026 estimate instructions omit them. This calculator therefore accepts age-60 recipients only with independently approved eligibility and at least three years of legal domicile. A recent move or unresolved residence needs a prepared liability. Larger military limits beginning in 2027 are excluded from this 2026 calculation.

For an approved joint illustration, federal AGI is $80,000, including $15,000 of benefits, your $45,000 pension and your spouse’s $5,000 pension. Separate owner exclusions are $12,500 and $5,000. Delaware adjusted income is $47,500; an approved $11,500 deduction leaves $36,000 taxable. The printed 2026 estimate schedule gives $1,611.50 before credits. An approved $440 nonrefundable credit total reduces that estimate to $1,171.50. Withholding remains a payment, not a liability deduction.

Joint investment ownership must be allocated before entry, and one spouse cannot lend unused exclusion to the other. The deduction input stays as entered when filing status changes: confirm the correct standard or itemized amount for your facts. The official estimated schedule uses rounded printed bases, including $2,943 above $60,000; its result is an estimate, not a completed resident return. Separate or combined-separate returns, refundable credits, special lump-sum tax and unresolved categories require their own preparation.
